I don't think we have to sacrifice public discourse or police oversight for public safety. We can have both.
We are going to have to replace some or all of the people who have been laid off, and we're going to have to repair or rebuild some buildings.
The fact is, most people have no idea how bad it really is. I had no idea until I, my roommate ...

Georgio:Absolutely not since police are the bad guys, who enforce laws that should not be.
THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY!
It's only a free country until some @sshole assaults your roommate or steals your $900 bike it took you all summer to save for. Then it feels a lot less ''free''. You feel frightened to go out or do stuff.
A guy grabbed my ...

She's a bag lady who has become interested in local politics. I think she shows up to comment on every matter before a public board, from school boards to city councils to county commission. As near as I can tell, her primary purpose is to offend. She's rude, inappropriate and disrespectful, even though people are courteous to her. I don't know why

Torrey may be a lot of things, but nobody can claim he's not a savvy business man. He had money lined up for the stadium project. My bet is it would have made money. (This is in no way meant to be a criticism of Mayor Kitty.)
As an aside, I enjoy the Weekly, but it's an entertainment publication, the progressive equivalent of Rush Limbaugh. Even ...

You are exactly right about the 3 sides to every story here. That is why I was remaining neutral on my position just by watching/listening to the video the tenants posted on youtube.
My post stands by Oregon law. I am a law student so I know the terms very well. Should the tenant have notified the owner that the pellets were ...

LanceSpring: Hope: I strike a different balance than Lance does. I'd pay up to another, say, $30 per month in taxes, as long as the person making/spending twice as much paid twice as much in additional taxes, and so on. Obviously, there is a limit -- but we can't get services for free, so we either have to choose the ones we don't want or pay ...

You say no other county has an income tax. Are you suggesting the citizens in all Oregon counties should pay the same for government services? Suppose I agree? How do we get Lane County's tax base up to the state average?
Multomah County DID have an income tax, and it was imposed at a time when their property tax support was already over

I think you guys are mixing apples and oranges.
First, I agree with those who say our property taxes are too high. My brother lives outside Oregon and his house is worth almost twice mine, but he pays less property tax. Many point out that our overall taxes are much lower than most Americans, so I checked that out. When I used Google to check the

How come the news doesn't report on this? Seeing these two characters behave this way is the sort of thing the public ought to know. It makes me mad!
Comissioner Fleenor said he wouldn't pay for DA and police unless he had money for ten years!!!!!! Since when is that the rule for giving us the service we pay for? We should start a recall petition!
