Fighting the system to get social security

So outside of the economy, which is beginning to become old news, why not do a report on how hard it is for people that are older that are in need of it to be approved for social security. My mother (58) has suffered from mild strokes and cancer for the past 3 years. For the past three years she has been denied. Doctors have said she cannot work, and when she has tried to work she suffers from confusion and anxiety. Still, the social security administration has denied her. Now she has to move in with her two sons, both of which have lost their jobs and though we have both applied for innumerable jobs, are now living off unemployment which covers our housing and lights. My mother for the three years prior to her condition drove OTR driving semi trucks. Yet, when she first contacted the social security administration, if she were hispanic she would have an easier time. To top it off at my last employer a man of 24 years of age fought cancer and had social security two weeks after his operation, and recieved it for six months and he did not apply for social security. Essentially after three years my mother has had to rely on her two sons and friends to pay her bills, because social security says that her condition does not meet the requirements to collect social security. I'm sorry but mild strokes 1-3 times a month causing her to blackout and have time loss of the incidents, having a bout with cancer, and suffering from anxiety and depression (which the last two alone people have been approved for social security) more than qualify her especially when my stepdad suffered from emphazyma which could be delt with alot easier than medications from cancer and strokes. But enough of my ranting and raving. Thanks to all that read this post

Re: Fighting the system to get social security

It is a very corrupt system. My wife has been unable to work for a few years now. She has had terrible panic attacks, and she has been diagnosed with ADD, Sever pain problems, and she has had a CAT scan the showed white lesions on her brain, but her doctors could not say what it is.

We had a terrible time when I was only making 16 bucks an hour, and she had very high doctors bill. Then I would get my wages garnished for some time because of a Dental Insurance Issue that took over a year but eventually they paid the money back. In the meantime we lived on 10 bucks a week for food for two adults.

Her attorney is a local one that pays KMTR money to advertise about how he will get you your SSDI money that you have paid in for years, and then when you can't work, they fight you for years to get it.

I feel for you, keep protesting because it is a corrupt system. The judges are deciding if the person is disabled, and weather or not they can work or find some kind of a job.

We are fortunate in the fact that I went to school in my mid 30s and got a Computer Science Degree, and now I making even better money than the 32k a year I was a few years back, when she first started trying to get her SSDI. Now she has about 9 years to go until she can collect her normal SSI so as long as I keep moving up in my business, we will be okay. We are doing well now, and I will continue to earn more.

Getting a Degree was the best decision I ever made. I worked full time, and went to school for 3 years. It was very hard work, with little sleep, but I did, and others can too.

God bless you and your family. I trust that Obama will make the fat cats pay into the system that they broke until you can get back on your feet.

Ah yes!  My first wife had spells which eventually made it impossible for her to work.  Go to Social Security and apply to get a little of the money back she had been paying in for all these years.

Lotsa tests and interviews by government employees doubtless making more money per hour than either of us ever did.  Eventually, in their goverment driven wisdom, it was determined that her problem wasn't bad enough and was denied benifits.

Bout 6 months later the insufficient problem ended up killing her.  I was sure to go in and get the $170 death benifit (Which I actually got after producing the death certificate).  They offered to maybe go back and review the case (now that she is already dead and beyond help).  Gotta love these people.

Looking forward to the day when these people run our Health Care system too!
Rest assured, they will approve your surgery they day your spouse shows up with your death certificate
