    Republican/Constitution Party?

Now that many Republican leaders are voting on a more Liberal basis, is the Constitution Party the "New Republican Party?"  Has the Republican Party lost Conservative votes to the Constitution Party?  I am interested in hearing the opinions of Conservatives regarding the Republican Party's increasingly Liberal stance and thoughts on the Constitution Party's founding beliefs.

    Re: Republican/Constitution Party?

What's going on with the Republican Party today is really THE question of whether this country has a future or not.  We got a real situation here.

What will happen with Democrat control is all too obvious to mention, and frankly, to painfully negative for this forum.

Only a large party can defeat them in the elections.  So only the G.O.P. is capable.

It would seem that there are 4 significant components of this Party.  They are the NeoCons, the PaleoCons, the Libertarians, and the Constitutionalists.  The energy of the Libertarians and Constitutionalists is further split by separate splinter parties; not the case with the ' Cons.

The true power broker here has been the NeoCons.  They are the only ones with a real media presence and they seem to have a strangle hold on the party.  They also are probably the ones most removed from what are considered "true" Republican values - such as smaller government.  This is the primary reason we see so much Republican talk that does not match "republican" action.

This last election has been a real catastrophe after (1) NeoCon socialism came home to roost and (2) a Republican Executive that seemed positively bent on destroying his own - and the Partys political capital.

The question is : Has this last election been enough of a shock to the party to strip leadership from the NeoCons?  All I can say is - I sure hope so!  The best case senario would be the Constitutionalists, but I doubt they have the pull.  The PaleoCons would benifit from a strong backlash reation to the Hussein administration.  But the Libertarians have one of the largest splinter parties going; if they can bring this energy into the G.O.P by hook or crook.....something could happen.

If a change comes, my money would be on the Libertarians.  My heart would be with the Constitutionalists.  If the Paleos take charge, we may not be far away from a shooting war.  If the NeoCons stay in charge - we may wish wistfully for a shooting war (sigh).  We need good things to happen in this party and we need it to happen quick!

Some of the goals of the Constitution Party seem rather unrealistic to me, but the Republican Party has gone way to left for my liking.  I would rather err on the side of conservatism and vote within the Constitution Party than allow our government to continue to enlarge until it has permeated every aspect of our lives.  But I guess you are saying that I would be throwing away my vote because basically votes would be divided between the Republican and the Constitution Parties giving neither one the opportunity for success?

Does no one else feel the profound disappointment in the Republican Party that I do?  I am torn between voting my conscience, which could waste my vote, or voting for a less desirable candidate to insure my vote makes a difference.  It seems that we have arrived at this point because we have made one compromise after another to avoid wasting our votes for the reason that “it can’t possibly be as bad as giving control to the Democrats.”  Yet the two parties have become almost indistinguishable to the point that it seems many other Republican voters have tired of the GOP’s lean towards the left resulting in the Democrats now having control in Congress and the White House.

So are we doomed to an ever enlarging government?  Is there no way to recover the limited government our founding fathers intended?  It seems hopeless because even if the Republicans manage to regain control because of their new oath to move back to the right, I am skeptical of their follow-through in that promise.  Is a revolution the only way to regain the people’s control of our government?

    Re: Republican/Constitution Party?

I've never agreed with the "throwing away my vote" concept.  The truth is many of these people only care about being in power.  So if you (and thousands of others like you) decide to vote Constitutional party because you agree with that candidate more then  the Republican, and it causes the Republicans to lose, then the next election it gives the Republicans a choice. Put someone on the ticket that is more in line with the Constitutional party or lose power permanently.

"Does no one else feel the profound disappointment in the Republican Party that I do? "

I'm with ya on that, Limb.

The Republican nomination for president this time around multiplied my disappointment.  I was heartened initially by the early rise of Ron Paul.  This was a genuine agent of positive change and the people who pay attention had empowered him over and above all the "usual suspects" right out of the chute.  Then, to my amazement, I watched as the "front runner" in the nomination was ignored by media and the G.O.P. and the tired old R.I.N.O's were trotted out.  All the media talking heads were jabbering about candidates of the status quo - and I wanted to start grabbing people by the lapel and start shaking them.  All the people who DON'T pay attention only considered candidates in "the buzz"  (no slight intended Buzz)  So we ended up with .......McCain?!!!

But strange things have happened before in the G.O.P. nominations.  I recall Bush2's first nomination.  It was like he was the ONLY candidate even really considered.  It's like these decisions are made behind closed doors and the elections are only for public consumption.

By default, the G.O.P. falls into the position of the GOOD GUYS.  They are not stepping up to the plate.
