Curiosity got the better of me today. Had some extra time on my hands; after we had driven under the it yesterday - the Thief bridge had been on my mind. I tossed the bike on the rig and hauled it off to the backside of the Gateway mall. Parked behind Sears, fired up the old Raleigh and hit that new bike path.
Firstly, I would like to give my kudos to the contractors who put this thing together. Dunno how well it will hold up, but it is about the nicest bike path I have ever been on. Nice wide concrete trail connected to that nicely planned bridge. Well done ! (Whether it SHOULD have been done, not withstanding)
The destination of the trail itself is nothing special. It merely forks out away from the bridge North and South and plugs into the established road system. Outstanding access for peds and bikers in that residential area.
To my surprise, I wasn't the only person today using this access. There was a pair of bikers headed south as I came off the bridge and after I headed North, encountered a single pilgrim going south. I tipped my hat, but didn't stop to talk - never good to talk to thieves, you see. When I was mounting the bike back up to the rig saw another bike come down into Gateway from it. So that's 4 folks total for my 20 minutes of exploring time.
In closing I must sum up - Great bike path stuff there! Just wonder who lives in that Residential area who rates that kind of financial largess? Maybe the Governor's got a mistress........?
