Going by the freebie papers out near the door of most any store in the area, will show you that Eugene Weakly is whining about Cougar hunting in this issue. They made the mistake of getting me started. So gimme a few seconds to vent my spleen. 
Apparently, the thing that's wrong with Western Civilization is that Cougar hunting is allowed. And this "paper" is not afraid to bounce around in it's "logic" to prove it.
One of my favorite observations of theirs, is that Oregon tolerated the hunting of these Cats with Dogs for many, many years. Then, they observe how noone in Oregon has been attacked by Cougars. Of course nobody was attacked by Cougars in the past....they were hunted by dogs! Their populations were effectively controled and the yearly hunting season kept them reminded annually that people are not to be monkeyed with! This is how reasonable communities can maintain both the presence of large predatory animals AND safety for it's human population.
Now EW is upset that the Fish & Game can now control the predators with Dogs because of some badly needed legislation. (Using your tax money to pay for the control instead of letting hunters pay the state for the privilage) Even this is unthinkable apparently.

Ya wanna know what REALLY scares people? It's when one of these damn Cats drags your pet off into the underbrush of your back yard and proceeds to slowly kill it while you get to listen to the screams of the event in the middle of the cold black night! And now, with the poorly controled/intimidated cat population out there....maybe it will be your kid instead of your cat or dog. A friend of mine in Vida got to experiance just this exact occurance a couple years ago with his house cat. His daughter had been in that very back yard not too long before.
The only thing more dangerous than the big predators like Grizzlies and Cougars, are the politically connected Loony Leftists who use their agitProp to destroy sound and reasonable law.
