    Bush makes power grab

Hail Caesar!  Bush once said in a comment to a news person that was televised on a natioal news spot, QUOTE:  "I have nothing against a dictatorship...As long as it is me that is the dictator". Then he did that little Bush giggle... That got my full attention! He was fortelling to us what his plans are. It's called a freudian slip... Well folks here it is... It is amazing to me that Congress and the Senate will do nothing to impeach this man, since so much of his dictates are totally against our Constitution, and Bill of Rights... Remember,,, EVERTHING he signs into power for HIMSELF, will pass on to the next President in full force... But then, maybe his plans are, that with every power he assigns himself over and above the powers given, or withheld, by our Constitution brings him closer to full dictatorship... I think he may be there... If that be the case, there may not be another Presidential election... If so, this Country will have gone down without even a wimper... Something to think about, regardless of your political affiliations, or lack there-of.....

President Bush, without so much as issuing a press statement, on May 9 signed a directive that granted near dictatorial powers to the office of the president in the event of a national emergency declared by the president.

The "National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive," with the dual designation of NSPD-51, as a National Security Presidential Directive, and HSPD-20, as a Homeland Security Presidential Directive, establishes under the office of president a new National Continuity Coordinator.

That job, as the document describes, is to make plans for "National Essential Functions" of all federal, state, local, territorial, and tribal governments, as well as private sector organizations to continue functioning under the president's directives in the event of a national emergency.

The directive loosely defines "catastrophic emergency" as "any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions."

When the president determines a catastrophic emergency has occurred, the president can take over all government functions and direct all private sector activities to ensure we will emerge from the emergency with an "enduring constitutional government."

Translated into layman's terms, when the president determines a national emergency has occurred, the president can declare to the office of the presidency powers usually assumed by dictators to direct any and all government and business activities until the emergency is declared over.

Ironically, the directive sees no contradiction in the assumption of dictatorial powers by the president with the goal of maintaining constitutional continuity through an emergency.

The directive specifies that the assistant to the president for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism will be designated as the National Continuity Coordinator.

Further established is a Continuity Policy Coordination Committee, chaired by a senior director from the Homeland Security Council staff, designated by the National Continuity Coordinator, to be "the main day-to-day forum for such policy coordination."

Currently, the assistant to the president for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism is Frances Fragos Townsend.

Townsend spent 13 years at the Justice Department before moving to the U.S. Coast Guard where she served as assistant commandant for intelligence.

She is a White House staff member in the executive office of the president who also chairs the Homeland Security Council, which as a counterpart to the National Security Council reports directly to the president.

The directive issued May 9 makes no attempt to reconcile the powers created there for the National Continuity Coordinator with the National Emergency Act. As specified by U.S. Code Title 50, Chapter 34, Subchapter II, Section 1621, the National Emergency Act allows that the president may declare a national emergency but requires that such proclamation "shall immediately be transmitted to the Congress and published in the Federal Register."

A Congressional Research Service study notes that under the National Emergency Act, the president "may seize property, organize and control the means of production, seize commodities, assign military forces abroad, institute martial law, seize and control all transportation and communication, regulate the operation of private enterprise, restrict travel, and, in a variety of ways, control the lives of United States citizens."

The CRS study notes that the National Emergency Act sets up congress as a balance empowered to "modify, rescind, or render dormant such delegated emergency authority," if Congress believes the president has acted inappropriately.

NSPD-51/ HSPD-20 appears to supersede the National Emergency Act by creating the new position of National Continuity Coordinator without any specific act of Congress authorizing the position.

NSPD-51/ HSPD-20 also makes no reference whatsoever to Congress. The language of the May 9 directive appears to negate any a requirement that the president submit to Congress a determination that a national emergency exists, suggesting instead that the powers of the executive order can be implemented without any congressional approval or oversight.

Homeland Security spokesperson Russ Knocke affirmed that the Homeland Security Department will be implementing the requirements of NSPD-51/ HSPD-20 under Townsend's direction.

The White House had no comment.

    Re: Bush makes power grab

Okay, let me get this straight:

George W. Bush the President of the Unite States of America, just signed and passed a directive that will, in the event that a nuke or plauge or tsunami hits this country and causes mass amounts of casualties, give him complete and immediate dictatorship rule along with a new side kick, the National Continuity Director who, apparently, gets to do nothing other than tell his/her lackies to tell the press whatever he/she deems necessary for the public to know.

Is that right? That's how I interpreted this article.

Now, by a show of hands, how many people voted for this guy?

I hope that when the world ends, the reatrds who ran it will realize that they made a mistake to make turkey bacon.

    RoeRoo,

I have to own up... I post good articles I find here, like the one above to help expose what this administration is really about... This is atonement for me... Of all the mistakes I have made in my lifetime, voting for this maniac IS THE WORST OF THEM ALL... Not once, but twice... Yes, I was blinded by patriotic nationalism, and outright disgust of the Democrat machine... I have now realized, that they are both alike... They wear a mask of difference, for our benefit, so we will vote for them.. After all we all are contrarians to one degree or another thus two parties or more... This next election (IF THERE IS ONE), will go to the Dems. They have been tapped this time to win... But people will find out that it will be more of the same (Iraq, Immigration and such)... The people should already realize this by what the Dems have NOT don since they took power... The plan that is unfolding before us was blue printed years and years ago... They have had a few set backs, but not many... There soon will be no USA the land of the free and home of the brave... In order for the Global government to exist, the USA has to conform to the lesser countries of the world, and that is what is now happening... In 10-30 years, the USA will be a second world country, and some parts of it, third world... Enjoy the weekend...

    Re: Bush makes power grab

This is where I must disagree with you. I don't believe that the USA will ever be a second or third world country. If this country were to go down from the status we are in now, it will be one big ass drop. We will bypass the 2nd and 3rd world status, and become the first continet in the history of them world to become a giant ass wasteland of rebels and retards fighting amongst themselves for a power that noone else aroudn the globe will recognize. I say this beacue I believe that this nation will grow in power. And continue to grow in power. Then, we will get a leader like Hitler. Not so much into the whole "Pure Race" idea as Hitler was, but into the whole, trying to gain as much as he can while he can so he will be remembered. He will gain much, like Hitler, and then, he will be overthrown. And in his downfall, he will take as much with him as he can. Successfully bringing this nation down. And throwing us into complete and utter anarchy. All because those before him lacked the utter competence to think before they acted.

And I don't blame you for voting for this fool we have as a leader. Alot of people were fooled. I thought the other guy would have been good. Didn't vote though. So, yeah...

I hope that when the world ends, the reatrds who ran it will realize that they made a mistake to make turkey bacon.
