Eugene Oregon has the highest # per capita of Cats of anywhere in the country....and it's in the top 10 for dogs.......so why is it so hard to find an apartment where you can have pets? Seriously.....Confused

because there are so many irresponale pet owners. It is sad but very true, many property owners have had to pay the consequences of others pets that have been neglected and allowed to be destructive. When I first moved into the area 25yr ago it was difficult to find a place that allowed children; for the same reasons. At least that has improved.Smile

Vandygirl is correct in the fact that there are so many irresponsible pet owners which impact everyone after them although in fairness people should not be put in a barrel when it comes to pets and/or responsibility. There are just as many pet owners that are responsible that should not have to suffer the effects of those that came before them.
Renters on one hand should use common sense when aquiring a pet of reasonable size when they know they will be renting. Landlords, on the other hand should be able to ask for fair coverages for the addition of animals but they should not be able to rip off renters in the process.

Likewise one must remember that it is still considered discrimination to withhold available rental units from those with children for that reason alone. Sadly and frequently they simply ask too much for a rental to discourage those very people. Discrimination is often quite hard to prove.
