    Best Local Fish & Chips

There was a day when there was a lot of great Fish & Chip shoppes around.  This is no longer the case.  There was G. Willickers, Old English, R&T on Mowhawk in Spfld, the Rose & Thistle out in the University area of Eugene.  But now...they are gone....save that Eugene Rose & Thistle.

If I want good Fish & Chips - there's only one place I know to go anymore.  The proprietors are no longer "Spring Chickens" either, so I could see them retiring at any time.  When that happens I'm gunna be "sure" outta luck.

So if you know a good spot for real Fish & Chips, please chime in.  I'm all ears!

Have you tried Newman's Fish Market on Willamette?  The walk up counter is pretty good.

Although nothing beats the mound of chips and huge strips of cod, smothered in vinegar, then wrapped in white butcher paper that you get overseas.

And the KFC by Walmart in
Springfield is getting a Long John Silvers.   LOL Big Smile

Long John Silvers was a pretty good fish place when I visited in California. I excited they are opening here, try them I'm sure you will be pleased. There were also resonable.

I suspect that it wouldn't be fair to compare a LongJohns to something like Rose&Thistle.  But it sure would be fair to put them up against Skippers.

Have never had a chance to hit a Long John Silvers, but have long been curious about them.  When they open up, will be sure to give them a try.

I Have eaten at Newmans, but never had their fish & chips.  Will have to try it next time in.  Thing with Newmans, the wife doesn't like going down there cause it smells like.....well.....a fish market.  Smile  I gotta admit, the aroma there isn't one I'm used to in an eating establishment.  But I'd go there more often if the wife weren't opposed.

There was a Long John Silver's and a Skipper's where I used to live and they were very similar. I would have to say I like LJS just a little bit better as they were less greasy usually.  This could be attributed to the crews at those particular stores though.

While we're on the topic of breaded and deepfried fish - what about fish tacos?  Anybody know where to get a good fish taco?

There is another good fish and chips place, on the corner of 7th and Blair... You know, the fish market there, geeez I can't remember it's name... Your wife may have a problem with it, because, it is after all, a fish market... And yes, Newmans is good, I like their outside seating... The fast food chip places, will gag you if you are used to quality fish.... The absolutly BEST fish and chips I have EVER had was at a shop on the water front in Brookings, Oregon... If you ever get down there, see if it is still there... If it is, by all means try it...Big Smile

Fisherman's Market 7th. and Blair, but it smells just like Newman's. You should get your fish grilled, haven't you heard deep frying is bad for you? Just kidding, they have them both ways though.

LOL.  I wish I could give away free certificates, but then people in the sales department might not be too happy.  Big Smile Money to run tv stations doesn't grow on trees.

Plus I think something fishy (pun intended) is going on here, and Cassandra you might be trying to get a free lunch through badgerrr.  J/K Surprise  It's a conspiracy.

Egads!  I come back to this thread to find myself implicated in a Fish & Chips scandal!  Big Smile  Looks like Cassandra has a fillet & fries kick-back scheme going. Smile

To make matters even MORE interesting....she hasn't even let me in on the plan.  But thanky, Cassandra for fighting for my right to more Cod. Wink
