An ascendant man, living in a degenerate age, MUST, by definition, live in contradistinction to his times.

I guess it's how you group it.

When talking about feelings Hate is the opposite of Love.

When talking about emotion both Love and Hate are on the same side of the spectrum with Indifference on the other side.

Another question would be would you rather the person you love feel hatred toward you or indifference. 

The opposite of love is not hate. It's apathy or indifference … it's practiced by people who don't care enough to care. The fact is that people don't care what we know until they know how much we care.
