Local business owners found the man bleeding about the head, in and out of consciousness. The business owners called Springfield Police and asked for an ambulance for the man. The police and ambulance arrived after an unbelievable 56 minute response time. When the police arrived they first recommended, not a hospital visit, but transport to sober living facility. The local business owners were outraged that the police did not offer the man medical attention and finally convinced the police offer to take the man for medical evaluation and stitches for his wounds. Local residents and business owners are deeply disturbed at the time it took for the authorities to respond and also disturbed about how the homeless man was treated by the responding officers.

Here’s Some Juicy Gossip!

That title is an attention
getter isn’t it. That’s why all the gossip shows and magazines are so
popular. Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, and of course the
star magazines are all about the latest celebrity gossip. Whose on
drugs, whose having affairs and getting divorced, that’s what fuels
this billion dollar industry. Digging up the dirt is bigger than ever
and very lucrative because the American culture loves it. Isn’t it
totally innocent? Whats the harm?, “inquiring minds want to know”
that’s all………… No, it’s also because it’s in our sin D.N.A.

I
was talking with a couple of great people recently and the topic of
gossip came up. As we shared it came apparent that we had different
opinions about what would qualify as gossip. It was the type of
conversation that carried on to my thought life for the next couple of
days. Not in a bad way mind you, but in a thought provoking way. One
thought I had on the topic of gossip is it isn’t usually black and
white. A lot of the time it’s actually hard to detect, and so is the
motive behind it.

Just
what is gossip? Well, if we go to our source the Bible we have a pretty
clear picture throughout the Old and New Testament. One thing the Bible
is very clear about in regards to gossip is, it’s sin. And since God
say’s it’s sin we certainly don’t want to participate.

Gossip
is idle talk, with a suspicious motive, most always negative, spoken
about someone who is not a part of the conversation. Much of what a
gossiper says may be mere rumor, hearsay or sensationalized. Because
the gossiper is aware that gossip is a sin, he usually begins by saying
“I hate to say this but I’m so concerned about….” or “I know I
shouldn’t be saying this to you but I don’t know whom else to share
this with, ” or “Since you mentioned it….” This conversation is usually
whispered among a few “trusted” friends. This is why gossipers are also
called whisperers. Gossipers flatter us when they chose us to be their
confidantes. The way to defuse this fire is to ask if they have or
would say this to the person themselves, which if we are truly pure in
motive is what we should do. Bottom line, the Bible says to go to the
person if we have concerns. (Matt.18:15)

The
Apostle Paul puts gossip in with such sins as envy, murder, strife,
deceit and malice (Rm.1:29-31). Proverbs 18: 8 says, “The words of a
gossip are like choice morsels, they go down to a man’s inmost parts”.
Apostle James say’s the tongue is a “fire, a world of evil, restless
evil, full of deadly poison”. By the way this is how a root of
bitterness defiles many.

Gossip
has it’s many victims, which include not only those who are the brunt
of the gossip but the tellers and listeners as well. It is demonic by
nature for the Devil is the “accuser of the brethren”. He loves to
destroy through this hidden sin. It’s not just lives that are effected
but institutions as well. This is why the Bible say’s at the “Bema
Judgment of Christ” (where believers give an account of their lives)
every idle word will be judged.

As
believers we should be protective of one another, not by protecting
gossip but by exposing it. As an overseer I really appreciate those
who are protective and caring enough to expose any gossip and so put
out the fire. Lives and families have been spared over the years
because someone has been “a light”. I hope this has shed a little
“light” on this subject for you, I know it has for me.

“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them” (Eph. 5:11).

You can find more writings by Pastor Steve Miller of New Song Christian Fellowship at: http://newsongspringfield.wordpress.com/
New Song is a multi-generational church. Only parents who actually abuse their children whine. Only parents accused of hurting their child complain. But, what about those of us parents who never harmed our child, or any other? What about those of us parents who are not even accused of harming a child? What then? Why would DHS/CPS get involved?

In May of 2007, in response to a false allegation by the police that I must still be faced with in court(where there is no real evidence to say that I saw the ever dreaded, no-no word, child pornography on a computer and am now a monster in the face of everyone who's sold on the media - except those who know me and the truth - oh yeah, and was NEVER arrested because of the lack of evidence that will rely entirely on a scary, ghost story to mislead jurors, hoping that they media-hype created on this issue will cover up the facts that could otherwise provide my innocence), DHS began their investigation into this, single father. Aha! A man - so, I must be guilty. Oh, c'mon - don't be sarcastic in your reply - because THAT'S HOW I am being treated! Well, did they find any evidence of abuse? Nope. Neglect? Nope? Harm in any way? Nope. Should have been end of story, right?

Nope.

DHS/CPS has OAR rules governing what they do. They must use a GAP assessment form, complete a CPS assessment, and even if they determine a person is guilty, then proceed to find every way possible to return a child home, and if they don't - there must be a DARN good reason. But, of course, it took FOUR months, out of the 7 days (maximum), permitted by OAR laws for CPS to perform their assessment. Again, no one ever accused me of hurting my son, and there was no reason to believe it. So, they sent me to a clinic that is run by a man who has repeatedly presented himself in courtrooms as a 'doctor,' presented psychological profiles that he is not licensed or qualified to present, and has only been called on it by a few who were able to later find out - HE'S NOT A PSYCHOLOGIST! Well, OAR laws allow DHS to get a psychology evaluation. The evaluation they sent me to wasn't a psychology evaluation, but a traumatizing event I was forced to undergo that will leave me with nightmares for the rest of my life. Now - DHS has already violated multiple OAR laws, but next comes the so-called, 'doctor,' who is violating multitudes of state and criminal laws - and exceeds the boundaries of his evaluation to then state that not only am I a 'threat of harm,' to my own son, but all children and have probably been dangerous to children in the past.

Wait a sec? Didn't psychologists - or even, 'specialists,' who weren't doctors have to adhere to a principal of ethics that prevents them from fabricating facts and making up false reports that they didn't even use any scientific methods to determine?? Well, why should this guy adhere to any level of ethics - after all, he's helped falsely imprison many, many people (and yes, it's on record and proven), but abused his position to further his career by attacking licensed psychologists, falsely representing himself as more qualified and further condemning MORE people - AND MORE children! But - DHS wouldn't buy that, right? WRONG. DHS waited for his report - knowing that it would come back against me (although I forget to mention I passed all the physical exams and polygraphs proving my innocence), and THEN took my son, and for his best interest, sent him to my mother. But, here's where the real mistake was made - I complained. Yup, I wrote the director and codirectors of DHS who then used their position to help the caseworker get her vengeance (as I quoted to the directors, that the caseworker was violating OAR laws and endangering children).

So, in comes the caseworker, takes my son and gives him to his biological mother who has been absent for 7 years (abandoned him when he was 1), further fabricates lies, lies to courts, breaks OAR laws requiring them to try and see if my son can be returned home, completely circumventing that, literally SILENCING a judge in a court room to prevent me from presenting evidence of their lies, and then later admitted that they knew that their actions were causing my son extreme, emotional trauma and abuse (and yes, I have it recorded). They admitted they knew I hadn't abused him and weren't even worried I would - just that the 'threat of harm,' decided by the so-called, 'doctor,' was really, all they needed [to break the law, obviously]. And so, I've spent months trying to stop them, only to have my son's CASA worker, tell my family that once DHS takes a child that they will, NEVER give him back, to have DHS lie to me and my child causing him trauma and abuse that I can prove OVER and OVER again, having my son's biological mother neglecting my child SO badly that she has been sending him to school in soiled clothing risking E-Coli bacteria exposure and threatening his life, lying to him in detremental ways such as telling him that I have moved and his home and things are gone or that his kitty is gone and he will never see him again (the kitty my son had raised for a year, on his own and cared for and is sick over), and you can see the red circles under his eyes, see his continuing decline in school and social activities and know that other abuses are going on.

But - will anyone help? Nope - a public defender assigned to me who doesn't approve of single fathers, told me I should just, 'step out of the way and let his mother take him,' and who I now have to let abuse her position and force me to handle my case on my own just so I can make one last effort. The Governor and Senators - all of them, say, too bad. No response from the Attorney General, no response from the authorities - nothing. And, why? For the most part - because the media has trained the public to believe that anyone with child porn on their computer is a monster - and while that may be true to an extent, what they have FORGOTTEN to mention - is that it only applies when the computer wasn't HIJACKED and there is PROOF that it was!

So, down goes my son. Down goes a father's promise to protect him and care for him. Another statistic to add to the TENS OF THOUSANDS being wracked up by DHS. Oh yeah - the head director quit in 2007 - why? Because, as she puts it - she hopes now the state will pay attention and they can get away from the Federal report card of doing a, 'D,' (WAY below average) level job in child protection both in protecting abused children and placing them - including NOT taking away healthy children from healthy families). And, you can take the time to look it up, although I can quote multiple court cases now where this has happened repeatedly - but DHS has NO evidence of abuse, no VALID report of abuse (just the report that says I should stay away from kids --- but, no real reason 'why,' cause even the evaluator couldn't make up that many lies), a declining health of a wonderful, little boy - and rather than deal with it, they are AGAIN violating MORE OAR laws and trying to force the custody that I've had for 8+ years over to my son's biological mom. That will alleviate them of responsibility, and they can blame her when it continues to go wrong.

And, every day, every night, every minute is a nightmare. Every second of my life is torrential fear and concern. I see my son [maybe, if I'm lucky] twice per week. They won't let me see him without being frisked, and sealed containers with food, that I bring in for snacks, or sealed containers with a small gift, that I bring in for him, being torn through and examined. And, we sit behind a mirror like caged animals being watched. And no one helps. The media doesn't cover it - and I don't know why. What if we educated the people as to what DHS is doing? What if there were a story that DHS couldn't validate, verify, prove or back up that would PROVE the horrors that DHS is wreaking upon innocent children? What if there were a horror story of some computer-monster (like I'm being accuse of), that suddenly turned out to be such a farce that the public had a chance to be outraged and DEMAND change? What if we used the NEWS, to acutally educate people and report both sides of the story? Well, that would be a change, wouldn't it? Of course, I'm in Bend - and our NEWS doesn't exist. Help over here, doesn't exist. And DHS keeps hurting children, innocent families keep getting destroyed and everyone turns a blind eye to the truth - ONLY - when they know they are in a position to stop it, and don't.

From one who has lost hope and wonders if these are the last words I shall get to say, if these last few months of hell of my life will also be the last - for I have been condemned to death. Any father, who is truly a father, who has been taken away from the child he loves and has sworn to care for - is nothing. And, from my son, who cannot speak, for he too, like me, has been silenced - and cries out for them to let him come home, but no one listens, only lies and forces him to submit -

Thanks for listening. I wish you, and all your families the best. Being a dad was the happiest time in my life, and without help - there is no hope, and no reason to continue forward.

The food there compares favorably and the wait staff has largely been quite good in my experiance. It's kept clean and appears to be well run. But there is one issue with this Sharis (and probably all of them) that should be mentioned. For the most part, Sharis coupons are a trap.

Over this last year, I have tried to cash in perhaps 8 coupons. Have only succeeded about half the time. It seems there is always some little exclusion that will catch you, if ever try to use these in good faith. On one occasion, I recall there was a exclusion day not even printed on my coupon - but a different coupon listed it and the waitress was kind enough to save me before I committed to using the coupon. Another way they get you - if you order an item on special - they refuse to charge regular price on the special and take your coupon (like just about everybody else will do). They will allow you to "save" the 25c special price, but shaft you out of, say, a $8 coupon savings because of it.

Avoid coupons here, and if you must try, remember that your Waitress is your lawyer. Make sure she knows what you are trying to do with that coupon ,right up front, before the order goes out. Don't just leave the coupon on the table and trust she sees it. That's how I got shafted the last time.

It appears that the Sharis coupon program is predicated on a spin of the old car lot practice of bait & switch. Get you in with the loss leader. Get your order made in good faith. Then, once committed, will spring an exclusion on you and insist on following the underhanded rules. Remember, at the car lot, you somehow never had a chance to buy the loss leader automobile - it was always already sold somehow and they wouldn't work the same deal for you with a similar model. "That's the rules - sorry. Now lets look at that powder blue sweetie right here....."

Sure is a black mark for such an otherwise fine establishment. It's rather sad, actually. I don't blame anyone locally for this. It has all the appearance of something cooked up by the corporate Jr G men in Sharis board room. If anyone with any influence with this place chances to see my little note here; can I urge you to drop the coupon program entirely, if this is the way you must run it? Take that funding and give better in store specials instead. This bait & shaft program is just buying your establishment a lot of, otherwise, undeserved ill will.

Posted 1:00 AM Eastern

by Jim Kouri
April 26, 2007
© 2007 NewsWithViews.com http://www.newswithviews.com/

Something ominous and sinister has been happening on the Internet lately: two major internet service providers -- without any prior explanation or notice -- have been discriminating against conservative e-zines and web journals. [read on].

According to several subscribers to NewsWithViews.Com's newsletter, companies such as Earthlink and SBC Global are intentionally blocking delivery of NWV's e-mail to subscribers.

"When I wasn't receiving my NewsWithViews notices I called their office in Oregon to ask why. I was concerned they had closed down or worse. The gentleman I spoke with told me that all the Earthlink folks were being denied delivery of the daily posts from NWV," complains Jackie Juntti, a NewswithViews.com e-mail subscriber.

"I have to admit that shocked me as Earthlink has long had the reputation of sending EVERYTHING thru their servers -- no holds barred. I tried and tried to make an e-mail complaint about their blocking NWV from getting to me. I explained to them I SUBSCRIBED to that list and I WANT IT DELIVERED!! I tried several different Earthlink e-mail addresses and as of this moment I have yet to receive any response from Earthlink about my emailed complaints on this topic," said Ms. Juntti.

As reported by NewsBusters, the most recent widespread occurrence of this unexplained phenomenon was when Frank Salvato, proprietor of The New Media Journal, realized that his content that day hadn't been disseminated at Google News as it had been on a daily basis since he reached an agreement with the search engine in September 2005.

After sending the Google Help Desk a query concerning the matter, Salvato was informed that there had been complaints of "hate speech" at his website, and as a result, The New Media Journal would no longer be part of Google News. As evidence of his offense, the Google Team supplied Salvato with links to three recent op-eds published by his contributing writers, all coincidentally about radical Islam and its relation to terrorism.

According to a recent WND news article American Airlines is blocking WorldNetDaily as a "hate site." "WoldNetDaily is anything but, all they do is report the truth, since when is truth hate?"

As a sidebar, the NewsBusters article that first broke this story on May 19 cannot be found by doing a Google News search even though other recent articles by NewsBusters can.

To be sure, there have been complaints in the past from conservative bloggers that internet service providers seem to have dubious requirements to be a part of its News Crawl. In February 2005, Michelle Malkin spoke of the difficulties she was having becoming part of Google News. At roughly the same time, Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs also complained about not being being excluded by internet services.

However, the biggest example of censorship appears to be the blocking of e-mail from conservative web sites such as NewswithViews.com. NWV e-mail is treated as spam in spite of the fact that readers voluntarily sign up for the newsletter.

NewswithViews.com subscriber Mary Gasser reported to this writer that she's already found five conservative newsletters including NWV being blocked by her server SBC Global, which is owned by AT&T.

"It's crazy how these people just decide to block e-mail and treat it as spam, but they treat spam as legitimate e-mail," says Ms. Gasser.

Few knowledgeable people question the existence of bias in the media, although there is debate about the slant. However, it is conceivable that few folks have considered the possibility of Internet news aggregators possessing such partiality, and, maybe more important, the ramifications.

Beyond this, Google appears intimately tied to former vice president and potential 2008 Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore. It is no secret that Gore is a senior advisor to Google, a position that garnered him a sizable number of shares according to Fox News political analyst Susan Estrich. On May 19's The Big Story, Estrich discussed with host John Gibson Gore's connection with Google, and how the wealth generated from the shares he owns in the Internet behemoth could give him enough money to finance his own presidential campaign.

NWV contacted Earthlink and was directed to their company's policy on spam blocking:

Known spam blocking detects messages from known spammers on EarthLink servers and intercepts them before they reach your inbox. These messages are automatically sent to your "Known spam" folder, where you can view the messages before deleting them. This level of protection works regardless of your email program.

Suspect email blocking allows you to only receive email from the people in your address book. All other email will be sent to the "Suspect Email" folder until you have approved the sender.

Note: Legitimate emails coming from EarthLink will NOT be filtered and will ALWAYS be delivered directly to your inbox. You should NEVER accept a blocked email that ended up in one of your spam folders just because it APPEARS to be from EarthLink.

Political strategist Mike Baker of New Jersey is suspicious of Earthlink and SBC Global. He wonders how customers continue to receive unsolicited information on penis enhancement, get-rich-quick schemes, and pharmaceutical products but their requested political e-mail is blocked by their Internet provider.

"I've personally had desired e-mail blocked by IP servers, but I get regular e-mail on how to enlarge my sex organ or how to buy controlled substances on the internet," says Baker.

When this reporter contacted SBC Global -- which recently merged with Yahoo! -- I was directed to their spam protection policy:

The SBC Global email account includes SpamGuard, a filtering system designed to reduce spam in your inbox by directing most bulk messages to a bulk mail folder. This filtering system is automatically activated when you upgrade to SBC Yahoo! DSL.

When our automatic filter determines that a message was sent in bulk, SpamGuard generates a bulk mail folder and sends the bulk message to this folder instead of your inbox. This technique aims to deliver only emails that you've requested to your Inbox. However, we may occasionally send these messages to your bulk mail folder. If this occurs, let us know by clicking the This is not Spam link on the message itself.

Messages remain in your bulk mail folder for a minimum of 30 days unless you delete them yourself. After 30 days, the messages are removed automatically. You may wish to empty your bulk mail folder yourself on a periodic basis by deleting all unsolicited messages that have been placed there. This will free up your online email storage space.

Please be aware that the bulk mail folder doesn't generate Spam, and does not create additional mail. The system only directs incoming bulk messages addressed to you to a different folder.

Conservative activist Kathy Lehman is also complaining about her IP server, Earthlink. She states that when she called customer service she spoke for over a half-hour with a representative overseas, but finally hung up when she discovered she wasn't making any headway.

"I've since switched to another server in order to get my conservative publications and newsletters such as NewswithViews.com," said Ms. Lehman.

"Dealing with their customer service people was like dealing with crazy people."

transmission

About two weeks ago I lost transmission of KMTR. I have a converter box and have had no problems up to this point, always receiving a clear image. I rescanned the channels, but to no avail. The signal at times comes in all broken and digitalized and at other times nothing at all. What changed and what can I do to receive the signal like I use to?

Apple Spiders

It's Halloween! Need an alternative to the stereotypical Jack-O-Lantern? If you got nasty old windfall apples, you got apple spiders in the making.

Sticks for legs. Google eyes are $1 a pack at the dollar store. Makin em can keep the kids buzy for a while. What the heck?

Property Taxes up again

Property values are down 15-25% in the region , yet property taxes are going up. Any thinking person, of course, realizes their interests lie in preserving their Golden Parachutes which include full benefits for life, 80% pensions etc...This is ,of course, ignoring the fact these people are overpaid by at least 30% in Lane County. Perhaps the most insulting aspect is when they try to placate us by saying things like "we are not taking pay increases this year", to which my response is , "Great, neither are any of the other 70,000 unemployed workers in Lane County".

unit seeks sponsors for wreath-laying salute to
(Eugene, OR) –
Members of the Civil Air Patrol Mahlon Sweet Composite Squadron would like to
invite the public to sponsor remembrance wreaths that we will place on the
graves of veterans at Willamette National Cemetery on Dec. 12 to honor those
who served our country as well as current military members. Sponsors can even
designate where the wreaths will be placed in the cemetery. The squadron’s
efforts coincide with tributes occurring simultaneously across the nation
during Wreaths Across America observances. We are also collecting donations to
purchase more wreaths.

As a key partner in
Wreaths Across America for three Decembers now, the Civil Air Patrol has adorned
memorials and veterans’ graves with evergreen wreaths to make sure the
sacrifices of our nation’s soldiers are not forgotten.

Last year, members of the
public sponsored placement of more than 100,000 wreaths on veterans’ graves
across the U.S., an increase of nearly 70,000 wreaths from 2007. These wreaths
will be placed in ceremonies at cemeteries in all 50 states. Worcester Wreath
Co. donated more than 17,000 wreaths for the remembrances, 10,000 of which will
be placed at Arlington National Cemetery. CAP units lead almost half of 372
observances and participated with other color and honor guards at many
additional locations, including Arlington National Cemetery.

Wreaths Across America
began in 2006 as an offshoot of the Arlington National Cemetery wreath project,
which was started in 1992 with the annual placement of wreaths donated by
Worcester Wreath Co. Wreaths Across America ceremonies were conducted largely
by CAP wings and squadrons with the help of veterans’ organizations; private
citizens; the Maine State Society of Washington, D.C., which annually assists
with the laying of wreaths at Arlington; and the Patriot Guard Riders. Visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org

Civil Air Patrol, the
official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with more
than 56,000 members nationwide. CAP performs 90 percent of continental U.S.
inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue
Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 91 lives in
fiscal year 2008. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster
relief and counter-drug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies.
The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to
the more than 22,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet
programs. CAP has been performing missions for America for more than 67 years.

I'm having some issues with some of my peppers as well. I've been told that peppers require a lot of water. I know that the ones that are having trouble are being watered with other plants that use a lot of water and may not be getting enough. My community garden is on an automatic watering system and several of my pepper plants wilted while plants on either side of them were doing fine. Last year I had a great pepper crop with the same system but I had the peppers grouped together. Next year I'm going to put my peppers all together so I can give them extra water and see what happens. As for the melons I've never had luck with them so I gave up years ago. They really need a lot of water and sun. They also have a long growing season and we sometimes don't stay warm long enough for them to ripen.

A
background story to start. Few years ago, my wife encountered a
desperate fellow alongside the road. She could see his rig was starting
to burn under the hood, and the guy was getting a little frantic. But I
was sure to buy a brand new extinguisher for her rig, when we bought
the car. She retrieved the tool from it's special place and handed it
to the happy victim. He pulled the pin, pointed and ......NOTHING.....
To keep a long story from getting even longer. The guy lost his car.
I took care that we would have that unused extinguisher (and paid the
money) for just such things - but when we needed it......nothin'!!!!

There's the old saw, "Oh
you need to relentlessly check your fire extinguisher every day" or
"change them out every other week" or "spend half your life in prayer
that it will work when you need it." But we all know the only thing
this "advice" creates is an excuse for someone to say "I told you so"
when failure occurs, cause in the real world this stuff won't happen.

What we need is a viable fire fighting tool that works when we need it.
Even if it is not nearly as effective as a functioning fire
extinguisher (which we won't have in all likelyhood). It would be REAL
nice if compressed air was NOT involved (unless we pump up in the field)

In
the Old Daze there were little glass balls filled with Carbon
Tetracloride or little pump up squirt extinguishers loaded with the
aforementioned. Is the best thing we can do today carrying a box of
baking soda?

Rob Handy was scary-clueless!

I was a guest yesterday at the debate between Commissioner Bobby Green and his challenger Rob Handy. I don't know much about either of them, but it was obvious that Mr. Handy wasn't comfortable answering the questions. One of them, a question about which county services were most important, and which he would curtail or eliminate to fund the most important services, he simply refused to discuss it. (Green said critical public safety functions were the highest budget priority and he would follow the county strategic plan in deciding which cuts to make. There was nothing evasive or confusing about that.)

Several times during the debate my host shook his head and said, "He's wrong", or "That's just not true", so I asked him to explain on the way back to the car after lunch. He said that Mr. Handy wasn't even close on the numbers or the other facts central to running Lane County government. For example, Mr. Handy was asked to explain the "structural deficit", a term which describes one of three core problems the county has to address to recover from it's current crisis. Handy had no idea what it was, so he said it was "$3 million dollars" and then prattled on about what it's like to own a business. But "structural deficit" is a condition which produces an annual shortfall, not a specific dollar amount that remains constant from year to year. It refers to a split between the rate of growth in costs (between 6% and 7% and the increase in net revenue (at or below 3%). On a $425 million dollar adopted budget, the associated dollar amount would be closer to $14 million, not $3 million, and that doesn't account for the loss of the secure rural schools money.

Handy also completely misunderstands the principles and the math underlying the property tax incentives that are offered to large employers like Sony and Hynix when they agree to move move to our area and build large manufacturing facilities. He touted the "cost per job" of tax breaks for companies like "Glory Bee" while criticizing the cost of larger breaks provided to the larger companies which bring thousands of jobs with average salaries several times higher than those provided by Glory Bee, a small local company that produces food, candles and gifts. He completely missed the point that Hynix converted rural land that was producing almost no tax revenue (in deferral) into commercial property that was producing hundreds of thousands in property taxes. He sees it as "giving money away" rather than competing for an employer that will provide hundreds or thousands of high-paying jobs and millions of dollars in property tax revenue. Mr. Handy simply understood none of it.

The scary thing is that I didn't know it either, so I didn't know how confused and lost Handy was until my host, a CPA, pointed it out and I had a chance to come back and compare the numbers on the county website.

Even I could tell that Mr. Handy wasn't particularly sophisticated or comfortable discussing numbers and financial principles -- he's a high school graduate who works as a landscaper -- but I didn't know how ignorant he was about county challenges and government finance until somebody else pointed me back to the real information. That's scary, because the commissioners have to make hundreds of decisions that effect the management of our money and critical services.

Handy probably gets away with being completely clueless about this stuff about 95% of the time. Unfortunately, he only needs 51% of the voters to buy his line to win. I found that very, very scary indeed.

just talk

Let's use this thread to get to know one another, talk about who we are, our families, and what we are all up to.
Relax, You Got A Friend

I just got
through with a conversation with one of my favorite people and I feel
better now (not that I was having any problems:). Some people are like
that, they just kinda make your day if you know what I mean. Those are
valuable people in my book. Nice to be around.

You ever notice how with some people you can just be yourself?. I
like that. Not having to qualify or justify, that’s what I’m talking
about. That’s actually a pretty big deal if you think about it. Which I
did, think about it, that is. What I came up with is this, I like
talking with this person. That’s because we are a lot alike. I
understand this person’s feelings. They make me laugh because I totally
understand where they’re coming from. I get it, because I have been
there done or said that, and it’s totally relatable to me. These kind
of relationships are fun because, hey, I realize I’m not alone. Someone
else is actually as crazy as me. Bottom line, I think I can trust this
person, and quite frankly, that weighs in heavy with me. And you know
what else? God likes it when we trust, especially when we trust Him.

Jesus, now there’s somebody you can trust. You can go to Him with
all your hurts and shortcomings. I mean He relates, He totally
understands, everything. You can relax and be yourself around Jesus,
it’s not like He doesn’t already know anyway. I’m somewhat amazed He
knows everything about me and still loves me and wants to hang out. You
can be yourself with Jesus. He is right there all the time wanting to
talk. He’ll listen to all my complaints without being critical. And, He
is never moody. He must be God. Besides all that, all of the things He
tells me really make a lot of sense. When it comes to making me feel
good and cheering me up, He’s the one. He makes me laugh then He makes
me cry (in a good way). Whoever wrote that old hymn “What a friend we
have in Jesus” really knew what they were talking about.

You can find more writings by Pastor Steve Miller of New Song Christian Fellowship at: http://newsongspringfield.wordpress.com/
New Song is a multi-generational church.
I was thinking of a story my neighbor told me about when she was a kid. She and her sister (one year younger than her) had to pick berries one summer to pay for their winter coats. Her sister only lasted a few days, while my neighbor stuck it out the whole summer. At the end of the summer, she had to use her money to buy herself a winter coat. However, since her sister did not have the money for a winter coat, their mother bought her one. My neighbor expressed how she thought that was unfair. Yet she is a Liberal. How can she see that childhood situation as unfair, yet consider it right for the government to do the same thing to us. The only difference I can see is that with a Liberal government, the person that worked all summer to buy their own coat also has to pay for the coat of the non-working community member. I am honestly at a loss for an understanding of why people vote for Liberal candidates and causes. Is it because they benefit from it and therefore don't care about the fairness of it? Is it because it does not cost them personally to support others so they can be charitable with someone else's money? I would actually appreciate an explanation from a Liberal for this discrepancy because I truly do not understand and would like an insider's view of the Liberal principles.

Obama sets funding for overseas abortions

This is a GREAT day to be an American. My mother (58) has suffered from mild strokes and cancer for the past 3 years. For the past three years she has been denied. Doctors have said she cannot work, and when she has tried to work she suffers from confusion and anxiety. Still, the social security administration has denied her. Now she has to move in with her two sons, both of which have lost their jobs and though we have both applied for innumerable jobs, are now living off unemployment which covers our housing and lights. My mother for the three years prior to her condition drove OTR driving semi trucks. Yet, when she first contacted the social security administration, if she were hispanic she would have an easier time. To top it off at my last employer a man of 24 years of age fought cancer and had social security two weeks after his operation, and recieved it for six months and he did not apply for social security. Essentially after three years my mother has had to rely on her two sons and friends to pay her bills, because social security says that her condition does not meet the requirements to collect social security. I'm sorry but mild strokes 1-3 times a month causing her to blackout and have time loss of the incidents, having a bout with cancer, and suffering from anxiety and depression (which the last two alone people have been approved for social security) more than qualify her especially when my stepdad suffered from emphazyma which could be delt with alot easier than medications from cancer and strokes. But enough of my ranting and raving. If I need to look up a business address or telephone number it's much easier to fire up my web browser of choice and do a quick query online. Almost every time I've ever had to look up a government number in the front of the book it's always been a royal pain that takes up more of my time then searching online.

Now that I've addressed the inconvenience of phone books, has anyone noticed how much paper is being used to produce these things? Not to mention the energy use involved. I presume gasoline is used to help deliver these hefty books to my front door. What a waste. Every time I see a phone book on my doorstep I lift the heavy monstrosity from my doorstep and I heave it into a recycle bin.

One more thing before I go.
