    Eugene School District Salaries

I just read in the Guard that Eugene School District Superintendant Tom Henry is retiring and was being paid a salary of  $188,000. I have no idea what his pension is but I am sure it is around 50k per year for life. The other two people who are not being replaced were making $162,000 and $127,000 respectively.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME ? SCHOOL DISTRICT WORKERS IN EUGENE OREGON ARE MAKING UPWARDS OF 125K PER YEAR ???

I could not believe what I read. These people can't even do their jobs and they are being paid that kind of money. This is madness and this ruling class mentality needs to end here and now. These people are fleecing the people of this country and it needs to stop ...Their pensions should be revoked and they should have to face the same circumstances the people who paid their salaries for 30 years have to face.

I hire people for a fortune 50 company and these people are being paid well over twice what they should be.

Enjoy your retirement Tom...WE earned it.

Someone really needs to note that these clowns can wipe 500k out of the budget at the bat of an eye, I am sure they will not even notice anything missing...Does anyone else see anything wrong with that picture ???

    Re: Eugene School District Salaries

One more thing...I hear constantly School Districts cannot afford lunch programs for poor kids , books etc. But we can afford to pay these people this kind of money ?

There is one thing I will march on, and that is when the Pension Guarantee Benefit Corporation goes bust and we taxpayers are asked to bail them out, you can forget it, ain't going to happen. Think your retirement is secure Tom ? Just ask the folks over at United Airlines how their penisions are holding out....

    Bait and Switch

Who is controlling your school? From a quick google search I found that Tom Henry, Eugene, OR, is connected with the Wallace Foundation. If you read the following links you can see the inter-connection with the same group of “foundations” I keep mentioning. According to their “mission” they are effecting social change outside the normal governmental system. So government funding does not keep pace with school costs, you get “grants” that fund programs you like. By delaying or cutting off various “grants” the school is forced into cutting teachers and programs. Eventually non-foundation supporting employees are let go. Foundation employees get “grants” targeted only to their program. (We have to spend this “grant” on only this program/employee, you will hear the school board say.) Books will come from their publishers, what they do not like will simply disappear. Just like in the story “1984” they will be able to rewrite history and morals and teach it to your children. You will be able to watch this happen in 4J right now.

    Re: Bait and Switch

Sorry I am not following...My point is simply looking at Salaries  for these people in comparison with average local salaries and factoring in cost of living these people are paid way too much - Especially when you consider :

    a) The horrible reputation of our department of education as a whole (both state and federal)

    b) Lack of any accountability whatsoever

    c) This is funded primarily by tax payer money

My kids will not set foot in the government school system, so this is an added black eye for me as I will be paying for their education twice, while Tom, George and all the rest of them and the rest skip off to their taxpayer funded retirements.

But in any case they are fooling themselves if they think their golden parachutes are going to be there forever as the societal problems coming on this country are going to hit EVERYONE where it hurts...

    addiction to "grants"

My point is that "Foundation" connected tend to give themselves larger pay then is required.

    "

a, The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation started inserting itself into education back in 1977. Their goal was to redefine education.

    b. After "foundation" members "infiltrate a system they control how their rules are enforced. Accountability is they investigate themselves.

    c. After they get a program insralled by "grants", then they withdraw the grant and make the taxpayers keep it going at their funding level. It you try to remove their program, they withdraw their "grants" and cause a "crisis" of "not enough funds". Basically it is an addiction to "grants" that leads to a control of the education system.

    Re: addiction to "grants"

OK - I got it. Becasue the school board (and district management) is in the "more, more, more" mentality just as the rest of our pathetic consumer culture, they take ALL the money and spend it on themselves by inflating their salaries, then, just the same as any government institution, they find it impossible to "downsize", so we end up paying the bill after the grants are not renewed and the thought of taking less throws them them into convulsions.

I also noticed Jim Torrey was on the school board and his occuptation is listed as "Consultant", I can see the picture now....Using his expertise in "Consulting" Ole Jim does a feasability study of school board member salaries, of course at a pay rate higher than the Board Members themselves are getting (because he is an "authority" on the subject he cannot take less, right ?), and he comes back with justifcation for paying these deadbeats 150k a year, which will also inflate his "consutling" fees...

I worked in the "consulting" business I know how the game works. And to think Jim, I actually voted for you, not because I agree with anything you say, but the thought of 4 more years of Kitty Piercy was too frightrning to imagine.
