    Vehicle burglary

I am amazed at all the items stolen every day from cars as I read the EPD
crime blotter. What amazes me more is the number of morons who have the guts to complain to EPD when it happen's to them. When you leave those valuables in your car..you deserve what you have happen. The cops have far more pressing issues than your theft.

    Re: Vehicle burglary

Personally, I think it is a matter of what is deemed valuable by the thief rather than the owner of the vehicle. My best friend has had her car broken into three times & there was never anything of real value inside - at least to her. The three times her window was broken out the only items stolen were things like a jacket, a yoga mat, blankets, and pennies - yes, pennies, as in less than 15 cents in pennies in her ashtray.

I sort of wonder if some of the really desperate homeless people did it. While a yoga mat, blankets, clothing & pennies don't seem to be valuable to most, maybe they are very much needed & valuable to those who live on the street. So my best friend does not lock her car doors anymore since she can't afford a fourth window to be replaced, & she has yet to have anything taken from her now unlocked car.

    Re: Vehicle burglary

I have had 2 of my cars broke into in two different places. One time in the Gateway area (Old Red Lion Inn now Best Buy) was nothing taken I think the alarm spooked them off but they did $500.00 damage to my passenger side door.  The next happened right out front of my Apt. Off Coburg Rd. Had my Work bag stolen out of the back seat floor. This time they got my cell phone, and day planner that had my lic, credit cards and all that! 4 hrs later I got a call from my cell phone from a guy saying he found my bag of stuff including my cell phone from which he was calling. He said we would leave it at white bird. He did it was there when I went down there. The person said some homeless guy brought it in. I looked and every thing was in it even my cash minus $10.00 from my day planner. Later that month I got my cell phone bill man was it a high. How ever Stoll it had called china and Japan for a few hours.

    Re: Vehicle burglary

We used to like to drift the McKenzie River when we lived there. We gradually did it less and less because our cars started getting smashed when we left them at the boat ramps. We never had it happen between the 70s and 2000, but one of our cars was smashed three times between 2000 and 2005. After the third time, nobody in our group was willing to leave their car on the boat landing anymore. The last time the car was smashed the only thing in the car was towels and sun screen. My sister's car was smashed at a snowpark last year while she and her husband were skiing. In Lane County the criminals do whatever they want - a natural consequence of getting rid of all the law enforcement staffing for twenty years. Since we moved to Deschutes County we have had no problems. We're even floating the river again.
